Stanley Edwin Asnis Celebrates More than 40 Years of Professional Excellence in Health Care

Dr. Asnis was the recipient of the Lewis Clark Wagner Research Award from the Hospital for Special Surgery



With more than 40 years of experience in medicine and orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Asnis has been Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at North Shore University Hospital since 1997.

    MANHASSET, NY, March 28, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stanley Edwin Asnis, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With more than 40 years of experience in medicine and orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Asnis has been Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at North Shore University Hospital since 1997. He served as the Combined Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery of North Shore LIJ Medical Center from 2007-2011, and is now Chairman Emeritus. In addition to his current roles, Dr. Asnis is a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine of Hofstra University, and previously a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical at Cornell University and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

In preparation for his career, Dr. Asnis attended Franklin and Marshall College, then obtained the degree of Doctor of Medicine from Washington University in St Louis in 1968. He completed an internship and a residency at Cornell University Weill Cornell Medicine from 1968 to 1971, and a fellowship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery from 1971 to 1975. He has been board certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery since 1976.

Throughout his career, Dr. Asnis has contributed to a number of advances, including the development of the Asnis I, Asnis II, and Asnis III cannulated screw systems, patents for hip joint prosthesis convertible in vivo to a modular prosthesis, developing a universal compression screw, patents for devices for guiding the insertion of surgical wires into bone tissue, and patents for suture threading, stitching and wrapping devices.

Dr. Asnis maintains affiliation with several professional organizations, including the American Association of Hip and Knee surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Association. In addition, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Alongside his professional endeavors, Dr. Asnis is a contributor of articles to professional journals and has served as the editor for "Cannulated Screw Fixation: Principles and Operative Techniques."

In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Asnis has been honored with accolades and honors throughout his career, including the Lewis Clark Wagner Research Award from the Hospital for Special Surgery. In addition, he was presented with the Frank E. Stinchfield National Hip Society Award. Attributing his success to the support from his family and his passion for learning, Dr. Asnis has been listed in the sixth and seventh editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
