With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Mr. Messinger has been a member of Thompson Hine LLP's corporate and transactions and securities practice group since 1968 and a partner since 1976. In this position, he focuses on matters of public and closely held businesses, mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and securities, finance, leveraged buyouts, and non-profit corporations. In addition to his primary role, he was a member of the firm's executive committee from 1996 to 2000, partner-in-charge of the Cleveland Office from 1991 to 1996, and vice chair of the corporate practice group from 1989 to 1992.

Mr. Messinger began his career as a student at Colgate University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. He went on to study law at Duke University, earning a JD in 1968. His legal experience has included counseling senior management and owners of several of the firm's major clients. He has also managed large, complex acquisition, disposition and financing transactions involving multiple operations both in the U.S. and worldwide; he has represented issuers and underwriters in the public offering of securities; he handles transactions for major publicly owned and privately held businesses as well as newly emerging businesses headquartered in North America and Europe; and he represents transactions that have ranged in size from $10 million to more than $1.3 billion. Mr. Messinger often speaks at seminars and various meetings in his area of expertise for a number of professional organizations.

A former member of the board of directors of the Cedar Fair Management Company, former secretary and member of the board of directors of the Lee Wilson Engineering Company, Inc., and former secretary and member of the board of directors of the American Steel and Wire Corporation, Mr. Messinger is a member of the American Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. He previously served as chair of the Securities Law Institute for, and as trustee of, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. He has also been dedicated to various community organizations throughout his career, and currently serves as chairman of the board of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and as a member of the Boards of Directors of the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center and Senior Citizen Resources, Inc. He is a Trustee for Life of Circle Health Services and a past Board Member of Business Volunteers Unlimited and the Cleveland Chapter of Boy Scouts of America. He is co-president of his Leadership Cleveland class and a member of the Court Nisi Prius.

Mr. Messinger was named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America for Securities/Capital Markets Law in 2015 and 2017, received the Malvin E. Bank Award in 2011, and the Jurisprudence Award from ORT America in 2011. He has been named One of the Best Lawyers in America, to Ohio Super Lawyers, and to The Legal 500. He has been featured in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, and Who's Who in the World. Mr. Messinger has been married to his wife Sally (the former Sara Loraine Stock) since June 1967, and they have three sons.
