    PENSACOLA, FL, April 03, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William Wallace Mountcastle, Jr., PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A widely regarded expert in philosophy and religion, Dr. Mountcastle has been professor emeritus with the University of West Florida since 2003. Prior to his retirement, he served as the M.L. Tipton professor of philosophy and religion from 1979 to 2003, having been an associate professor of philosophy and religion from 1969 to 1979. Prior to joining the University of West Florida, he was a professor of philosophy with Florida Southern College in 1967 and 1968, and the head of the department of philosophy with Nebraska Wesleyan University from 1961 to 1967, as associate professor and professor with the school. Earlier in his career, he was an assistant professor of philosophy and religion with High Point College from 1958 to 1960.

Dr. Mountcastle served as a fighter pilot and communications officer with the Army Air Corp, which became the United States Air Force, from 1942 to 1948. He went on to study at Whittier College, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1951. In 1954, he completed a Bachelor of Sacred Theology with Boston University, earning a PhD with the school in 1958. In addition, he has been ordained as a minister by the United Methodist Church.

As an expert in the field, Dr. Mountcastle is affiliated with a number of professional organizations, including the United Faculty of Florida, the American Academy of Religion, the American Philosophical Association, and the National Education Association. In addition, he is an active member of Phi Kappa Phi and Veterans for Peace. From 1954 to 1960, he was a member of the Southern California ANN Conference of the United Methodist Church, and from 1960 to 1995 with the Nebraska ANN Conference (now the Great Plains Annual Conference).

Dr. Mountcastle has contributed numerous articles to professional journals. His selected works include "Religion in Planetary Perspective," "Science Fantasy Voices and Visions of Cosmic Religion" and "The Secret Ministry of Jesus." He remains active with the United Methodist Church, as well as the Unitarian Universalist Church of Pensacola. In recognition of his contributions to the field of education, Dr. Mountcastle has received several outstanding teaching awards from the University of West Florida.
