Retired attorney Mr. Kanter spent 40 years representing clients in the field of law, specializing in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and public offerings. Accepted to the California and New York Bars in 1956 and 1959 respectively, Mr. Kanter began his career as an associate and later as a partner of Stroock and Stroock in New York City from 1959 to 1992. The firm, which was founded in 1876, currently has offices in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington, D.C., with more than 300 attorneys. Mr. Kanter then became a senior vice-president and co-general counsel of Merck-Merck Managed Care in Montvale, NJ for five years and then special counsel for another two years until his full retirement in 1999.

Mr. Kanter is a graduate of Harvard College (class of 1953) where he majored in music. He graduated from the Harvard Law School in 1956. Mr. Kanter served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1958.

Mr. Kanter began playing the piano at age 11. As mentioned, he majored in music in college. After retiring, he attended music classes at Julliard, Columbia and The Manhattan School of Music where he studied composition with Dr. Reiko Fueting. At present, he composes primarily chamber music, including string quartets, piano trios and piano quintets, as well as solo piano pieces and an occasional piece for orchestra. He is a member of the New York Composers Circle and his music is played in the concerts they put on each year. Mr. Kanter is the sponsor of the Mivos-Kanter annual prize for a new string quartet and of orchestral prizes for student composers at The Manhattan School of Music.

He was married in 1963 to Gail Herman. They have four children and eight grandchildren. Aside from his interest in music, Mr. Kanter has spent a number of years painting and constructing steel sculptures.

Mr. Kanter has been highlighted in every edition of Who's Who in America since 1987, as well as numerous editions of Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the World.
