During her 40 years, she has specialized in construction law at both the state and national levels. She represents clients from across the construction industry, including owners, contractors, subcontractors, and sureties. She is renowned as an expert in time-related claims and litigation, the contracting process, payment enforcement and defense, administrative and scope claims, and counseling and transactional services. In addition, she is well-versed in dispute resolution, litigation, trial, appeals, arbitration, and mediation.
Prior to obtaining her current role, Ms. Klinger served as the chair of the Commercial Division of Sedgwick LLP from 2016 and as the head of the firm's Construction Practices Group from 1990 to 2015 primarily out of the firm's Los Angeles office, having been a partner with the firm's San Francisco office from 1988 to 1998. Earlier in her career, she served as an associate with a number of firms, including Sedgwick LLP from 1982 to 1987, with Steefel, Levitt & Weiss from 1981 to 1982, and with Chickering & Gregory from 1978 to 1981.
Ms. Klinger began her career as a student at the University of Santa Clara, obtaining a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in political science in 1975. She went on to study law at the U.C Hastings College of the Law, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1978 and being named to the Thurston Society. She is admitted to practice in the State of California, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Central, Eastern, Northern, and Southern Districts of California.
A respected leader in the field, Ms. Klinger was recognized as one of the first women attorneys in construction law. She has been affiliated with numerous professional organizations, including the Associate General Contractors of California and the Chair of its Legal Advisory Committee, the AGC of America Contract Documents Forum, and the CEB Real Property Advisory Committee. She is a member of the American Bar Association, for which she chaired and co-chaired numerous forums, committees and competitions. Ms. Klinger also sits on the University of California Hastings College of the Law Alumni Board of Governors.
Throughout her career, Ms. Klinger has received awards and honors for her achievements in the legal field. Recognized among the Best Lawyers in America in Construction Law, she received a Martin J. Andrew Award for Lifetime Achievement in Fidelity and Surety Law. Chambers USA recognized her for her expertise in construction law from 2013 to 2016, and she was the recipient of the James Acret Award for Outstanding Achievement in Construction Law Legal Writing. In her spare time, Ms. Klinger enjoys reading, hiking, golfing, and gardening.
