Grace Ann Horner Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    PALATINE, IL, April 10, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Grace Ann Horner with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Horner celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. With more than 50 years of industry experience to her credit, Ms. Horner is semi-retired as of 2017, contributing only as a programmer analyst for Block and Company, a position she has held since 1987. Prior to this appointment, she served as a programmer for AMC Industries Inc. from 1986 to 1987, a programmer for Marca Medical Industries from 1984 to 1986, director of adult education and field advisor for the North Oakland County Girl Scout Council from 1979 to 1983, and teacher's aide for the Woodlands School District from 1978 to 1979. Previously, she held both the roles of substitute teacher from 1972 to 1978 and third grade teacher for the Round Lake School District from 1972 to 1973. In 1965, Ms. Horner began her career as an optometric assistant to her father, Dr. Harry E. Horner, until 1979.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Horner pursued her education at Wisconsin State University – Whitewater and at Northern Illinois University, earning a Bachelor of Science in elementary education in 1972. She completed her education in 1977, graduating from Northern Illinois University with a Master of Science in outdoor teacher education. In 1984, she received programmer certification from the Control Data Institute.

Beyond her efforts within the field, Ms. Horner has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. From 1972 to 1979, she was a leader and on the Activities committee for the Lakeview Girl Scout Council in Libertyville, Illinois. She attended All Saints Episcopal Church from 1979 to 1983 where she contributed her choir talent and began to lay read. Having served as vestry communications chair for St. Philip's Episcopal Church from 1999-20002 and has been a member of the foundations committee there. Also at St. Philip's she contributes her voice and flute talents to the choir as well as continuing as a lay reader. Ms. Horner found further success as a musician, presently serving on the St. Philip's Episcopal Church choir since 1989, as well as a flutist for the Palatine Concert Band since 2011. She previously was a musician for the Round Lake Area Park District Community Band from 1972 to 1979 and from 1983 to 1984. Ms. Horner also played for the College of Lake County Wind Ensemble from 1977 to 1979 and from 1983 to 1984.

In addition to her primary trade, Ms. Horner remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She is an associate of the Friends of the Newberry Library and the Wisconsin Historical Society. She has maintained membership with the Computer Assisted Genealogy Group of Northern Illinois, German Interest Group – Wisconsin, and the Illinois State Genealogical Society. Since 2004, she has served as a book reviewer for the Federation of Genealogical Societies. Additionally, she is involved with the Chicago Genealogical Society in several capacities, including as a columnist since 1990, workshop chairman from 1988 to 1989, director from 1989 to 1992, second vice president from 1992 to 1993, president from 1993 to 1995, and past president from 1995 to 1998. She has written numerous articles for the above organizations as well as for Ancestry Magazine, the Wisconsin Genealogical Society and the Windber Area Museum.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Horner has accrued several accolades and honors throughout her impressive career. In 1999, she was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Chicago Genealogical Society. She has also received a 25 Year Recognition from Block and Company. Additionally, Ms. Honor was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America.
