ORCHARD LAKE, MI, April 12, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Ananda Prasad, M.D., Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Prasad celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Born in India in 1928, Dr. Prasad is highly regarded in the United States and abroad for his work examining how trace elements, particularly zinc, affect human metabolism. He received a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery from Patna University before migrating to the United States in 1952. Five years later, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Minnesota, where he also completed a residency and served as an instructor for the Department of Medicine at the University Hospital. He worked in Iran for two years as a professor of medicine and chair of the medical faculty at Nemazee Hospital in Shiraz before returning to the United States. In 1963, Dr. Prasad joined the faculty of Wayne State University as an assistant professor of medicine and director of hematology. He remained there as Professor and Director of Hematology until 1984, when he became director of research for the department of internal medicine, and was later named a WSU Distinguished Professor of Medicine.

Having become involved in the medical profession after witnessing how living with hypertension affected his mother and brother, Dr. Prasad has spent much of his career working to treat people and afford them a better quality of life. After almost 20 years of conducting research, he felt an amazing sense of accomplishment when the National Academy of Sciences declared zinc as an essential element for humans. This development ensured that zinc was formally recognized by the pharmaceutical and food industries as a necessary component of the human diet, which hadn't occurred since 50 years prior with the addition of vitamin B12 to the "must-have" list. Now regarded as the premier researcher on zinc metabolism, he was awarded Mastership in the American College of Physicians in 2015.

Other honors acknowledging Dr. Prasad's work include an award from the American College of Nutrition, the Lawrence M. Weiner Award and Ambassador Award from the WSU School of Medicine, a Pioneer in Sickle Cell Disease Research Award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, and the Klaus Schwarz Commemorative Medal from the International Association of Bioinorganic Scientists. Dr. Prasad also received the prestigious Mahidol Award from Thailand. He was presented by the Mayor of Lyon, France, an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Lyon and most recently recognized as an Outstanding Scientist by the American Physiological Society and American College of Physicians. In addition to being a highly published researcher, he is a prolific author whose titles include "Trace Elements and Iron in Human Metabolism," "Zinc in Human Nutrition" and "Trace Elements in Human Health and Disease." He also served as co-editor of "Clinical Applications of Recent Advances in Zinc Metabolism" and editor for the Journal of the American College of Nutrition.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ananda Prasad, Ph.D., has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
