Likewise, he is a clinical professor of ophthalmology in the School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii since 1997. Previously, Dr. Sugiki held the positions of chairman with the Department of Ophthalmology at the Straub Medical Center with the Hawaii Pacific Health from 1965 to 1970, resident in ophthalmology at Washington University from 1962 to 1965, and an intern with St. Luke's Hospital from 1961 to 1962.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Sugiki pursued an education at Washington University in St. Louis, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1957, majoring in philosophy. He concluded his studies in 1961, graduating from Washington University in St. Louis with a Doctor of Medicine. Following his academic efforts, Dr. Sugiki served in the U.S. Army in 1968, serving to the rank of Major in the Medical Corps until his honorable discharge in 1969.
In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Sugiki remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has been a member of the American Medical Association, Hawaii Medical Association, Honolulu County Medical Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Likewise, Dr. Sugiki is involved with the American Glaucoma Society, Washington University Eye Alumni Association, Hawaii Ophthalmological Society, and Research to Prevent Blindness.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Sugiki has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. In 1968, he received a Commendation Medal from the Hawaii Army National Guard. He was also recognized as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Sugiki has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
