AURORA, NY, April 20, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Tukumbi Lumumba-Kasongo, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Lumumba-Kasongo celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Lumumba-Kasongo will be celebrating his 25th year teaching political science at Wells College in Aurora, NY, in 2018. First hired as an associate professor in 1993, he later served as the Herbert J. Charles and Florence Charles Faegre Professor of Political Science and chairman of the international studies department. Beginning his career in academia as the chairman of the political science department at the University of Liberia in 1982, he later acquired teaching appointments at Bard College, Cornell University, Vassar College, the University of Massachusetts, and Wellesley College. He has been the founding director of CEPARRED (the Pan African Studies and Research Center in International Relations and Education for Development), in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa, since 1996.

Highly educated, Dr. Lumumba-Kasongo earned a Diplôme de Licence with distinction and a Diplôme d'Agrégation both at Université de Kisangani (formerly the Université Libre du Congo) in 1972, followed by a master's degree at the prestigious Harvard University in 1975. He then completed a Master of Arts in political science in 1980 and a Doctor of Philosophy in ethics and political science at the University of Chicago in 1981. Teaching world politics to undergraduates, Dr. Lumumba-Kasongo maintains interest in comparative politics, international relations, political economy, education, philosophy and classical studies, all of which are intertwined in his classroom instruction. In addition to teaching politics at Wells College, he has also been serving as the Chair of the Division of Social Sciences since 2006, and he has been an adjunct professor of government at Suffolk University since 2006 and a visiting research fellow at Hiroshima University in Japan since 2003. He has been credited with supervising many bachelor's theses, master's theses, and Ph.D. dissertations as well.

Active as a member of the College of Expert Reviewers for the European Science Foundation Pool of Reviewers between 2010 and 2014, and again since 2016, Dr. Lumumba-Kasongo has contributed extensively to various peer-reviewed journals and books as an author and co-author, and he has been the editor-in-chief for "African and Asian Studies" since 2001, co-editor of "International Studies in Sociology and Social Anthropology" since 2001, associate editor of the "Journal of International Relations and Education in Africa" since 1998, and co-editor of African Journal of International Affairs (2009-2017). The highlight of his career, however, has been in serving as editor-in-chief of "African and Asian Studies" as it is one of the most prestigious social science journals published by Brill in the Netherlands and reconciles everything that is published on Africa and everything that is published on Asia in comparative studies.

A longstanding member of the International Political Science Association, the American Political Science Association (APSA), and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa, among others, Dr. Lumumba-Kasongo was nominated for membership of the SuperProfessor status published on FacultyRow. He was admitted to FacultyRow Top Professors in 2013. He received a Distinguished African Studies Award from NYASA in 2010, and an Ann J. Russ Prize for Social Responsibility from Wells College in 2006. In addition, he was named Outstanding Teacher in Political Science from APSA. He also received a research grant for 2007-2008 from the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Tokyo, Japan, on the "Study of Conflict Prevention in Africa," where Dr. Lumumba-Kasongo's case was the Democratic Republic of Congo. He has also been cited in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the World.
