Col. Peter A. Dotto Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

A decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Col. Dotto has accrued nearly 50 years of service to the military and higher education. Col. Dotto was born in Milan, Italy, and immigrated to the U.S. with his parents at the age of 5. An adjunct professor of homeland security at Campbell University since 2010, Col. Dotto previously worked in business development with Computing Techs., Inc., from 2009 to 2010, as senior analyst for the Marine Corps Center for Lessons Learned in Quantico, VA, from 2006 to 2009, and as program director of M2 Technologies., Inc., from 1999 to 2005.

Having begun his career as a commissioned second lieutenant of the United States Marine Corps in 1971, Col. Dotto steadily rose through the ranks as an infantry officer to colonel in 1992. He has traveled extensively both nationally and internationally to such locations as Europe, Somalia, Panama, and Camp Pendleton, CA. From 1985 to 1988 he was the Assistant Naval Attaché in the U.S. Embassy in Rome, Italy. From 1988 to 1991, he commanded Security Battalion and the Brig at Camp Pendleton, CA., from 1992 to 1993, he acted as director of future operations for the Unified Task Force in Somalia, and later became the military assistant to the U.S. Ambassador in Somalia. He became commander of the Headquarters Battalion, First Marine Division, in Camp Pendleton from 1993 to 1994. Thereafter, he held the role of vice-director of strategy, plans, and policy for the U.S. Southern Command in Panama from 1994 to 1995, advancing to assistant chief staff for special operations training and exercise simulations for the I Marine Expeditionary Force from 1996 to 1998. Col. Dotto retired from the military in 1998 after briefly serving as chief staff of the I Marine Expeditionary Force (Fwd).

Alongside his primary endeavors, Col. Dotto also acted as an adjunct professor at Marine Corps University in San Diego, CA, from 1999 to 2006, a member of the Secretary of the Navy Retiree Council from 2006 to 2008, a consultant with the Naval Sea Systems Command and with Sierra Cybernetics in 1999.

To prepare for his career, Col. Dotto first sought formal education, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Dayton in 1971, followed by a Master of Science in government from Campbell University in 1984. He later earned a Master of Arts in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College in 1991.

A respected voice in his community Col. Dotto maintains affiliation with several industry-related organizations, including as a lifetime member of Disabled Veterans of America, the Marine Corps League and Military Officers Association of America, as well as a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kiwanis International, the Marine Corps Association, American Legion, and First Marine Division Association. He has also served as president of his home owners association and board member of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. Furthermore, he has contributed a number of articles to professional journals to share his knowledge with his community.

In recognition of his exemplary service, Col. Dotto was awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal in 1995 and the Merit Award from the U.S. Department of State in 1993. However, the highlight of his career was when he commanded two battalions, leading each unit to receive Meritorious Unit Commendations from the Commandant of the Marine Corps. In addition, he prides himself on his accomplishments as the head of the United Nations Cease Fire and Disarmament Committee in Somalia in 1993.

Col. Dotto attributes his success to working with good people, being a problem solver, and having a tinge of luck throughout his career. He believes that anyone can attain success if one is a conscientious and diligent worker and does his homework. Married to Marilyn Anne Capotosto since 1999, Col. Dotto is the proud father of six children and two grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, hiking and traveling.
