With 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Jang has been a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Gachon University since 1996. In addition to his primary position, he has served as a visiting researcher with the Aachen University Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Systems from 2004 to 2005 and as an advisor with the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials from 2003 to 2006. Earlier in his career, Dr. Jang was a senior researcher with the Mando Machinery Central Research Institute from 1988 to 1996.
Dr. Jang began his career with the Republic of Korea Army, serving from 1980 to 1983. He then pursued his education with Kyung Hee University, first obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in mechanical engineering in 1987. Continuing his studies with the school, he completed a Master of Arts in mechanical engineering in 1989, and he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in mechanical engineering in 2000.
A leading voice in the field, Dr. Jang has written extensively in his areas of expertise, and he has maintained affiliation with numerous professional organizations. A member of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineering, he is also a lifetime member of the Korean Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers and the Korean Society for Precision Engineering. In addition, he has served as an executive director of the Korean Society for Fluid Power and Construction Equipment, and as the vice chair, editorial director, executive director and business director of the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers.
Throughout his career, Dr. Jang has received recognition for his contributions, including with the Excellence Award from the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea. The Mando Machinery Central Research Institute gave him a Research Award, the Korean Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers gave him a Technical Award, and the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers gave him an Academic Prize. In his free time, Dr. Jang enjoys hiking, climbing, farming and traveling.
