Now retired, Dr. Barringer split his years in the field of chemistry between two companies: Lederle Laboratories as a developing chemist and group leader from 1957 to 1995, and Wyeth-Ayerest Research as a senior research scientist from 1995 to 2000. During his extensive career, his research had resulted in numerous patents, as well as authorship in various professional journals. His research was also utilized to produce the drug Rapamune, which was developed as an anti-rejection drug for kidney transplant patients, and, over time, has been found to be useful for many other conditions. He also researched and developed a second drug, called Minocin.
An adjunct professor at King's College, a Christian liberal arts college in New York from 1969 to 1971, Dr. Barringer has been affiliated as a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Chemical Society. Furthermore, Dr. Barringer earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Denison University in 1956, as well as both a Master of Science in Chemistry and a PhD in Chemistry from New York University in 1964 and1968, respectively.
Married to Vera Evelyn Dodge since 1955, Dr. Barringer is the proud father of four daughters. Highlighted in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World several times for his accomplishments, he loves to garden, enjoys sports, photography, and travel.
