Tarun Kumar Celebrates Over Five Years of Professional Excellence in Psychiatry



    LIVERPOOL, NY, May 09, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Kumar developed the substance abuse guidelines for the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) - which are now being used as the University Correctional Healthcare (UCHC) Guideline for Substance Use Disorder Treatment in all the prisons throughout the state of New Jersey

For more than five years, Dr. Kumar has excelled in the field of psychiatry. Since 2016, he has worked as an Attending psychiatrist for St. Joseph Hospital and as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at SUNY Upstate University, Syracuse, NY. Three years prior, he began parlaying his expertise to various journals as an editor. Earlier in his career, he served as a resident in adult psychiatry for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai – Elmhurst Hospital. Over the years, he has honed his expertise in child, adolescent and forensic psychiatry through his training and work at SUNY Upstate University in Syracuse NY, RUTGERS Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway NJ, and Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown NY. He has also worked as the Medical Director at Behavioral Health & Wellness Center (entity of Transitional Living Services) in Lowville, New York.

A graduate of Manipal University (Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India), Dr. Kumar holds a degree in Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery, which in the United States is the equivalent of an MD. In order to remain engaged among his professional circles, he affiliates himself with the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. Dr. Kumar is triple-board certified by ABPN (American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology) in General Psychiatry, Child/Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic psychiatry. Throughout his career, he has contributed to the development of substance abuse guidelines for the New Jersey Department of Corrections, and had his work featured in various reputable journals such as the Southern Medical Journal, Asian Journal of Psychiatry, and the Hong Kong Journal of Psychiatry. He has also done presentations at various conferences. He further co-authored "Munchausen by Proxy: A Case Study of Abuse" and "Munchausen by Proxy: DSM 5 Changes and the Impact of Social Media," published by MedPage Today and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, respectively.
