Retired economist and researcher of 45 years, Dr. Douglas concluded his career as a natural resource economist with the U.S. Geological Survey in 2011, a scientific agency that studies the landscape of the United States, its natural resources and the natural hazards that threaten it. Working in Fort Collins, CO, he previously spent nine years in the same capacity with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which is dedicated to the management of fish, wildlife and natural habitats.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Douglas taught as an assistant professor at the University of California, Berkeley, between 1966 and 1971. He was also a research associate at the prestigious Harvard University between 1971 and 1974. Conducting an extensive amount of research during the duration of his career, Dr. Douglas is a longstanding member of the Western Economic Association International and Phi Beta Kappa.

Dr. Douglas is a 1962 graduate of the University of Chicago. Receiving a Doctor of Philosophy in economics four years later at Stanford University, he returned to college many years later, completing a Master of Science in forestry at the University of Arizona in 1986. Dr. Douglas has been cited in the 63rd through 67th editions of Who's Who in America. His research also earned him a front-page cover story in The Wall Street Journal as well as op-ed page stories in the Sacramento Bee and the Los Angeles Times in November 2002.
