Aliakbar Montazer Haghighi Celebrates More than 50 Years of Professional Excellence

Dr. Haghighi earned an Excellence Awards for his services as the Department Head and for his research production and publications



    HOUSTON, TX, May 10, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Aliakbar Montazer Haghighi, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With 50 years of academic and industry experience, Dr. Haghighi has been a professor and head of the Department of Mathematics at Prairie View A&M University since 2002. On the Teacher Education Council since 2003, he contributed to the school in multiple capacities, including as chair of the Curriculum Committee, on the Faculty Representative to the Library Committee, and on the College of Arts and Sciences Tenure and Promotion Committee. Prior to these appointments, he was a professor at Benedict College from 1985 to 2002 and an associate professor at Shahid Beheshti University from 1981 to 1985, participating in various committees and task forces for Benedict College. Dr. Haghighi began his career as an assistant professor at the Institute of Statistics and Informatics in Tehran, Iran from 1968 to 1981. Additionally, he served as interim president, chair of the academic council, vice president for academic and research affairs, chair of the department of statistics, and director of several offices for the Institute of Statistics and Informatics from 1968 to 1981.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Haghighi pursued an education at San Francisco State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics in 1966. He followed this accomplishment with a Master of Arts in applied mathematics in 1971 at San Francisco State University. Dr. Haghighi concluded his studies at Case Western Reserve University in 1976, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in probability and statistics.

Beyond his efforts within the field, Dr. Haghighi has contributed to numerous endeavors in his professional circles. A Board of Regents Professor candidate in 2015, he has served as a lecturer for Mount San Antonio College in 1985, a visiting scientist with McMaster University in 1984, and a technical manager for Tehran and National Insurance Companies from 1976 to 1978. Additionally, Dr. Haghighi has been a lecturer, panelist, speaker, and contributor to symposiums, workshops, and conferences around the world.

A respected voice in the field, Dr. Haghighi has been a member of the editorial board for Computational Methods for Differential Equations since 2014, the editorial board for Journal of Data Analysis and Operations Research since 2013, the editorial board for the International Journal of Statistics & Economics since 2008, and the board of review for the International Journal of Engineering since 2008. In 2005, he founded Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal, for which he remains as editor-in-chief. Dr. Haghighi has also contributed articles to such journals as the International Journal of Mathematics in Operations Research, the International Journal of Computational Engineering Research, the Journal of Applied Statistical Science, Statistics in Medicine, and Computers & Operations Research.

Dr. Haghighi has coauthored several books, including "A Modeling and Simulation in Industrial Engineering" in 2018, "Delayed and Network Queues" in 2016, "Queuing Models in Industry and Business" in 2014, "Difference and Differential Equations with their Applications in Queuing Theory" in 2013, and "Advance Mathematics for Engineers with Applications in Stochastic Processes" in 2011. Previously, he authored "Theory of Functions of a Complex Variable" in 1976 and "Axiomatic System and Axiomatic Set Theory" in 1973.

Dr. Haghighi has worked on the International Advisory Committee of the International Conference on "Advances in Nonlinear Sciences" for HITEC University in 2016, as an honorary member of the Scientific Committee for the Eighteenth Annual Mathematics Conference of the Bangladesh Mathematics Society in 2013, and the Scientific Committee for the International Conference of DSTA in 2009. A departmental liaison for the Mathematical Association of America since 2006, he was the mathematics education delegate with the People to People Ambassador Programs in 2000, the president of the Iran-American Society at San Francisco State University in 1966 to 1968, and the social chair of the Iranian Student Association of California in 1966 to 1967. Dr. Haghighi has also worked on the advisory committee for the Academy for Science and Health Professionals from 2002 to 2005, and with the International Society of Difference Equations since 2007.

Associated with the South Carolina Academy of Science since 1985, Dr. Haghighi has been a lifetime member of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics since 2005, a lifetime member of the American Mathematical Society since 2006, and a lifetime member of South Carolina Academy of Science since 2015. Previously, he was involved with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics from 2006 to 2009, the Council on Undergraduate Research from 1997 to 2009, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development from 2000 to 2004, the Texas Association of College Teachers from 2003 to 2004 and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics from 1998 to 2004. A constituent of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society from 1996 to 1999, Dr. Haghighi maintained membership with the Operations Research Society of America, Iranian Mathematical Society, and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.

In light of his undertakings, Dr. Haghighi has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his career. He has been presented with several awards from Prairie View A&M University, earning an Excellence in Service as Department Head Award in 2017, an Excellence in Research Award in 2007 and 2017, a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Participation as a Judge in 2014, an Eponymous Mathematics Scholarship Honor in 2014, and an Academy of Educator Development Certificate of Recognition in 2003. Recognized as a Visiting Scholar with the University of South Carolina in 1991, Dr. Haghighi was honored as a Ministry of Higher Education of Iran Scholar at Case Western Reserve University from 1973 to 1976.

Nominated as Professor of the Year in Scholarly Activities and Teaching by Benedict College in 1998 and 1999, Dr. Haghighi was further celebrated by Benedict College as a Distinguished Honors Faculty Member for Outstanding Service to Honors Education in 2001. He has also received grants from the Mathematical Association of America, the U.S. Department of Education, and the National Science Foundation. Likewise, he was bestowed with a Lifetime Instructor Credential Award from the California Community Colleges in 1985. Featured among Who's Who in North America Education from 2010 to 2013 and Who's Who Among Collegiate Faculty from 2010 to 2012, Dr. Haghighi has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
