With more than 50 years of professional experience, Mr. Valentine has been an attorney with the Law Office of Andrew J. Valentine, Esq., since 1995. In this position, he focuses on international, corporate, commercial and financial law. Prior to founding his own firm, Mr. Valentine served as deputy general counsel with the Northern Trust Company from 1979 to 1995, acting general counsel with Amtrak in 1975, and legal and legislative counsel for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1969 to 1972. Earlier in his career, he was a part of the American Delegation of the United Nations Legal Subcommittee from 1966 to 1968. In addition, he has worked in the legal departments of C&P Telephone Companies and AT&T, as well as general counsel with Blue Canyon Partners.
Mr. Valentine began his career in the United States Navy, where he served in cruisers and in carrier and multiengine aircraft squadrons in the Asiatic and Mediterranean fleets. He served with a VS squadron until he developed an eye condition, at which point he changed from a naval aviator designation to law specialist. Mr. Valentine graduated from Trinity School (NYC) in 1942 and obtained a Bachelor of Science from the United States Naval Academy in 1945, going on to complete a Doctor of Jurisprudence, summa cum laude, with George Washington University. He later studied at the Yale University Law School, where he earned a Master of Laws.
Mr. Valentine is licensed as a mediator and arbitrator by the Cook County Circuit Court, and has been admitted to practice in the states of Illinois, Virginia and in the District of Columbia. In addition, he has been admitted to practice before the Third, Seventh and Eighth Circuits of the U.S. Courts of Appeals, the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. District Court of Washington, DC, and the U.S. Supreme Court. A respected voice in the field, he has been affiliated with numerous professional organizations, including as a member of the Financial Markets Association and The Order of the Coif. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his contributions, including a Legion of Merit from the President of the United States.
Married to his wife, Dr. Marjorie P. Valentine who was a psychologist, they are the proud parents of three children. Their son is a vascular surgeon, their eldest daughter is the president and chief executive officer of Blue Canyon Partners and their youngest daughter is a computer engineer.
