William Lannes Recognized for Professional Excellence in Electrical Engineering

Mr. Lannes received a Bronze Star for his service in the U.S. Marine Corps



    NEW ORLEANS, LA, May 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William (Will) J. Lannes, III has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 45 years of professional experience, Mr. Lannes most recently served as an associate dean of research and graduate studies and Chairman of the Engineering Management Graduate Program at the College of Engineering of the University of New Orleans from 1992 to 2007. He also served as a Director of a major community bank, Fifth District Savings Bank, for over 35 years. Prior to obtaining this role, he worked in a variety of capacities with Entergy Corporation and Louisiana Power and Light, which have since merged, until his retirement in 1992. These positions include vice president of service and support from 1990 to 1992, senior vice president from 1989 to 1990, chief of engineering from 1988 to 1989, vice president of systems engineering from 1986 to 1988, substation engineering manager from 1983 to 1986. In addition, he was a substation engineering supervisor from 1979 to 1983, systems substation engineer from 1977 to 1979, systems relay engineer from 1976 to 1977, utility engineer from 1971 to 1976, and substation engineer from 1970 to 1971. Earlier in his career, Mr. Lannes served with the United States Marine Corps as an electronics officer and infantry officer, advancing from a commissioned second lieutenant to major from 1959 to 1970. This included a tour in combat in Vietnam.

Mr. Lannes began his career as a student at Tulane University, where he became involved with the Reserve Officers Training Corps and first developed an interest in joining the Marines. Crediting much of his success to his mentor General Robert Barrow, he obtained a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with the school in 1959 before going on to study at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, earning a Master of Electrical Engineering in 1966. He is registered as a professional engineer in the state of Louisiana.

Throughout his career, Mr. Lannes has been recognized for his contributions, having earned a Bronze Star for his service. In addition, he received a Cross of Gallantry from the Republic of South Vietnam, a Certificate of Merit from the Mayor of New Orleans, and a Distinguished Service Award from the College of Engineering at the University of New Orleans. The recipient of a NOVACES Founders Award and an Appreciation Award from the Project Management Institute, Mr. Lannes was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for his work in advancing substation design. He was also selected as the IEEE Outstanding Engineer in Region 3 and received the Prize Paper Award in Substations by the IEEE Power Engineering Society.

He is the author of two books, "The Change Cycle Handbook: How to Initiate, Implement and Institutionalize Change" and "Yes Virginia There is a God and He Created the Universe." His hobbies are reading, art and gardening.
