David P. Stewart to be Featured in Who's Who in the World

    WASHINGTON, DC, May 25, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David P. Stewart has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With more than 45 years of industry experience, Mr. Stewart has worked as a professor with Georgetown Law at Georgetown University since 2014, having been visiting professor since 2008. He previously served the U.S. Department of State as an assistant legal adviser from 1982 to 2008, and as a special assistant for the Office of the Legal Adviser from 1976 to 1982. Prior to these appointments, Mr. Stewart was an associate with Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Irvine from 1971 to 1976.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Stewart pursued an education at Princeton University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1966. He followed this accomplishment with Yale University, completing a Master of Arts in 1971 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1972. He concluded his studies in 1975, graduating with a Master of Laws from New York University. Mr. Stewart has been licensed to practice law by the New York State Bar Association, as well as before the District of Columbia Bar, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. Furthermore, Mr. Stewart enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 1970, serving to the rank of Major until his honorable discharge in 1987.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Stewart has contributed to numerous endeavors in his professional circles. From 2008 to 2016, he was elected to the Inter-American Juridical Committee for the Organization of American States. He held the role of adjunct professor for the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University from 2001 to 2012, Georgetown Law at Georgetown University from 1984 to 2008, and American University from 1985 to 1986. Mr. Stewart additionally worked as a visiting lecturer for GW Law at The George Washington University from 1993 to 1999 and the University of Virginia School of Law from 1993 to 1996.

Mr. Stewart has found much success with his written works as well, having coauthored such books as "International Human Rights in a Nutshell," "International and Transnational Criminal Law," and "The Foreign Sovereign Immunization Act: A Guide for Judges." The coeditor for Digest of United States Practice in International Law from 1989 to 2005, he authored "International Criminal Law in a Nutshell." A contributor of articles to many esteemed journals, Mr. Stewart previously participated on the Board of Editors for the American Journal of International Law.

In addition to his primary trade, Mr. Stewart remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has held the position of president for the American Branch of the International Law Association since 2014, having previously been recognized by the institution as president-elect from 2010 to 2014. Likewise, he is a former member and member-at-large of the executive council for the American Bar Association since 1975. A co-reporter for the Foreign Relations Law of the United States with the American Law Institute, Mr. Stewart has maintained membership with the American Society of International Law, the International Bar Association, and the Inter-American Bar Association.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Stewart has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his career. He was presented with the Charles Fahy Award for Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Teaching from Georgetown University in 2003 and 2004. Featured in Marquis Magazine in 2018, he was honored as an Industry Expert as well as a Distinguished Worldwide Humanitarian in 2017.
