Dr. Izuchukwu is the president and chief executive officer of Core Devices, Inc., a biomedical research and development company that conducts basic research to develop innovative medical technologies used in non-traditional and austere environments. Established in 2001, his firm also provides consulting and expert witness services to corporations and law firms on product development, product liability, patent infringement and invalidity contentions, reliability and quality control. Dr. Izuchukwu is the former senior director of global research and development and engineering at Nellcor Puritan Bennett LLC, Mallinckrodt, Inc., where he developed new medical devices for respiratory care, including oxygen concentrators and cryogenic oxygen systems for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, continuous positive airway (CPAP) and bilevel positive airway (BiPAP) ventilators for treatment of sleep apnea, breathing masks, and diagnostic spirometers for respiratory function testing. He also served as a team leader and director of research and development at Johnson & Johnson's Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc., where he was responsible for leading research and development, design, testing verification, manufacturing process development and validation of commercially successful endoscopic surgical instruments according to FDA and GMP guidelines.
A career that spans over three decades in the aerospace, electronics and medical device industries, with research experience in new product development, manufacturing and quality control, with an emphasis in electromechanical systems, pulmonary and cardiovascular mechanics, and design of related biomedical products, Dr. Izuchukwu has also spent many more years in academia. He has taught engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology, formerly the University of Missouri at Rolla, in the John Cook School of Business at St. Louis University, the School of Business at Fontbonne University, the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College, Department of Economics at Framingham State College, and at Portland Community College as an adjunct professor.
Dr. Izuchukwu earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial and mechanical engineering and Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Portland, Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and Doctor of Philosophy in industrial and mechanical engineering from Northeastern University. A licensed professional engineer in the state of Missouri, he holds certificates in new product development from Harvard Business School and in European medical device directives for product safety and testing from TÜV Rheinland. Dr. Izuchukwu has 19 U.S. medical device patents, and has authored and contributed to three books, as well as approximately 20 articles to peer-reviewed journals in such publications as the Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering and Industrial Engineering. Furthermore, he served as a reviewer for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)'s Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering. He has been cited by multiple researchers and inventors for his accomplishments.
A member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, senior member of the ASME, and former board member of the Ranken Jordan Pediatric Hospital in St. Louis, he was cited as among the Outstanding Scientists of the 20th Century by the International Biographical Center in 2000, Dr. Izuchukwu is included in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who in Finance and Industry. He received several research grants from the National Institutes of Health between 2004 and 2006.
Dr. Izuchukwu was born in Nigeria to a lawyer father and fashion designer mother. He was heavily influenced by his father, whose was known to say, "make haste while the sun shines," and was determined to see his son be a successful professional who could act as an ambassador to youngsters in Nigeria. He also received wisdom from other relatives on never to relent on his dreams, which drove him to tireless pursuit of his goals, to achieve, give back, and establish a legacy. Dr. Izuchukwu was taught to be respectful and maintain good values. These foundations have imbued in him many leadership qualities and a way with people which made establishing his own company a foreseeable outcome.
