Eleni Chatzi Celebrated for her Work on Intelligent & Data-Driven Assessment of Engineered Systems

    ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, June 07, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eleni Chatzi has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Eleni Chatzi was promoted to Associate Professor of Structural Mechanics at the Institute of Structural Engineering (IBK) in D-BAUG in April 2017. She assumed the Assistant Professor position as Chair of Structural Mechanics in ETH Zurich in 2010, financially supported by the Albert Lück Foundation. Eleni Chatzi was born in 1981 in Athens, Greece. She has obtained her Diploma (2004) and Master's degree (2006) in Civil Engineering, with honors, from the Department of Civil Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). In 2010, she obtained her PhD, with distinction, from the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University in New York City (USA). Shortly after receipt of the PhD Degree, she was hired as the youngest Assistant Professor in ETH Zurich, in August 2010.

Her research interests include the fields of intelligent monitoring (SHM) and data-driven life-cycle assessment of engineered systems, and further serves as the editor in numerous peer-reviewed international journals in these domains. Since 2016, she is coordinating the joint ETH Zürich & University of Zurich PhD school in Computational Science. She was recently awarded an ERC Starting Grant award WINDMIL - Smart Monitoring, Inspection and Life-Cycle Assessment of Wind Turbines, supported by the European Research Council.

Eleni Chatzi leads an international team of researchers working on data-driven monitoring, automated condition assessment and intelligent decision support for engineered systems, with applications spanning across civil, mechanical and aerospace infrastructure. Her research toward smart and autonomous infrastructure systems has been supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation, the European Commission as well as governmental agencies, and aims to redefine infrastructure assessment and management by turning monitoring data into knowledge.
