With more than 35 years of experience, Dr. Oh has worked with the Pohang Iron and Steel Company as the vice president of Mega Caster technology development for steelmaking and continuous casting since 1981, also holding the position of engineering and construction operator since 2008. In addition, he served as a leading developer for the improvement of internal quality for steel slabs, blooms, and billets 1982 to 2012, and he was a leading developer of the utilization of oxide metallurgy from 1998 to 2010.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Oh pursued an education at Seoul National University, earning a Bachelor of Science in metallurgical engineering in 1979. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Science in metallurgical engineering in 1981, also at Seoul National University. Dr. Oh concluded his studies in 1993 at Pohang University of Science and Technology, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in metallurgical engineering.
Beyond his responsibilities within his industry, Dr. Oh has participated in numerous endeavors in his professional circles. He has found success with his written works, having authored many scientific papers and articles for such esteemed publications as Iron & Steelmaker, Transactions of the Iron & Steel Society, Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, Metallurgical Research & Technology, and ISIJ International. Furthermore, Dr. Oh holds 22 patents in his field, all of which have been registered by the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Oh remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has notably been a member of ISS-AIME, the KFS, and the Korea Institute of Metals and Materials. In 1983, Dr. Oh served as a second lieutenant with the Republic of Korea Army.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Oh has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He was presented with the Cheoljae Prize from the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials in 2013. He also received the Technology Prize of POSCO Family from the Pohang Iron and Steel Company in 2011 and 2013. Dr. Oh has further garnered the CEO Prize of POSCO from the Pohang Iron and Steel Company in 2010 and 2013.
