TUCSON, AZ, June 15, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joy Ann Dyer-Raffler has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 35 years of professional experience, Ms. Dyer-Raffler retired in 2005, having been a teacher of exceptional education for the Tucson Unified School District since 2003, and a diagnostician of special education from 1989 to 2003. Prior to obtaining these roles, she worked as a teacher of special education from 1975 to 1989, and she taught art for the Tucson Unified School District from 1970 to 1975.

Ms. Dyer-Raffler was inspired to pursue a career in education by her father, who was also a schoolteacher. She found that she enjoyed teaching athletics, but found the arts even more gratifying. She began her career as a student at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1969. After obtaining some hands-on experience in the field, she returned to her studies with the University of Arizona, completing a Master of Education in secondary education in 1974, and a Master of Education in special education in 1976. Ms. Dyer-Raffler is certified in special education for those with learning disabilities, art education and special education for the emotionally handicapped.

A respected leader in her community, Ms. Dyer-Raffler has been affiliated with numerous organizations. A former den mother for the Cub Scouts of America, she was a member of the Arizona Education Association, the National Education Association, the Council for Exceptional Children, the International Reading Association and Teachers Applying Whole Language. In addition, she has been active with the Tucson Education Association, the Learning Disabilities Association and Tucson Teachers Applying Whole Language.

The recipient of a grant from the Tucson Unified School District, Ms. Dyer-Raffler considers helping a young woman with reading difficulty achieve her dream of following her father into the United States Army among the highlights of her career. When she returned a few years later, the young woman showed Ms. Dyer-Raffler a front-page story about how she had saved a recruit's life from a medical emergency. In her free time, Ms. Dyer-Raffler enjoys weightlifting, skiing, painting, bird watching and playing tennis.
