As executive director of the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute, Mr. Van Vranken oversees operations of the psychiatric systems of care with full outpatient services, inpatient, day treatment, and residential care. Concurrent to his current role, he serves as chair of the crisis call system for the state of Utah and chair of the Utah Hospital Association's behavioral health committee. Having begun his tenure with the institute as a social worker, he progressed to become the chief of social work then an assistant administrator. He was also director of program offices in Washington, D.C. for three years before taking on his current position in 1991.
Mr. Van Vranken received an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master's degree in social work from the University of Utah. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Utah Association of Social Workers, and the governor's taskforce for Suicide Prevention.
