The director of research of the U.S. Army Regional Health Command-Pacific-Hawaii, since 2012, and Chief of the Department of Clinical Investigation at the Tripler Army Medical Center, since 2007, Dr. Uyehara has made a substantial impact upon the medical industry. Prior to her current role, she served as a research pharmacologist at Tripler Army Medical Center and the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children from 1990.
Furthermore, she has been a member of the graduate faculty of the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Science program of the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawai'i, as well as a lecturer of pharmacology, pediatrics, and physiology since 1991.
In preparation for her successful career, Dr. Uyehara first obtained a Bachelor of Science from Yale University in 1981. She followed this accomplishment with a Doctor of Philosophy in physiology from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in Honolulu, in 1987. Subsequently, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals in King of Prussia, PA, from 1987 to 1989.

Attributing her success to her multiple mentors throughout her career, including teachers at the primary and secondary school levels, Dr. Uyehara has been honored with a variety of accolades in recognition of her contributions to scientific research, including the Order of Military Medical Merit Medallion. Married to Alan Yamauchi since 1990, Dr. Uyehara enjoys crafting and gardening in her spare time. Looking toward the future, she aspires to continue making strides in her industry and community.
