With more than 45 years of industry experience to his credit, Mr. Jones has worked as the director of the Unified Staff Service Program for NEA-Alaska since 2014. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of Unified Staff Service Program representative for NEA-Alaska from 1991 to 2014, as well as the National Education Association of New York from 1987 to 1991. Previously, he served as a mathematics teacher for Billings Public Schools from 1975 to 1987. Mr. Jones began his career as a narcotics detective with the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office from 1972 to 1974.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Jones enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1970, serving until his honorable discharge in 1972. Following his military service, he pursued an education at Montana State University Billings in 1975, graduating with a Bachelor of Science. He continued his studies with postgraduate coursework in labor relations at Cornell University. Mr. Jones concluded his studies at the University at Buffalo, completing postgraduate coursework.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Jones has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He contributed to the Alaska Partnership for Teacher Enhancement for the U.S. Department of Education as a member of the Alaska Teacher Licensure Task Force, the Teacher Education Advisory Council and the Advisory Committee on Teacher Standards. Additionally, he has been active as a board member of the Alaska Staff Development Network, on the board of directors for the Arts Council for Chautauqua County, on the board of directors for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Anchorage, and a member of various committees for the Department of Education of the State of Alaska. On the board of directors for the Billings Community Center from 1975 to 1987, Mr. Jones has held the roles of committeeman for the Yellowstone County Democratic Party from 1984 to 1987, a concert chairman for Billings Community Concert Association from 1980 to 1987, and an executive committee member for the Democratic Center Committee from 1985 to 1987.
Mr. Jones found success with his creative works as well, having had photographical work featured in the New York Arts Review and American Artist Magazine in 1991. In addition to his primary trade, he remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise, such as the American Civil Liberties Union, Big Sky Orchards, and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Associated with the Teacher Education Project at Montana State University Billings, he maintained involvement on the board of directors for the Montana Education Association from 1982 to 1987, on the accreditation review team for the Montana Office of Public Instruction, and as a master of Rimrock Lodge #149 for the Masonic Order in 1982. Furthermore, Mr. Jones is a member of the Billings Education Association, where he served on the board of directors from 1980 to 1982, negotiator from 1981 to 1987, and president from 1982 to 1987.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Jones has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. In 1985, he obtained the Distinguished Service Award from the Billings Education Association. He was later presented with the Distinguished Service Award from the MEA-MFT in 1987. Mr. Jones has been selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
