Robert S. Miletich Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

A widely regarded expert in the field of medicine, Dr. Miletich has served in a number of roles with the University of Buffalo since 2004. He has been the medical director of the nuclear medicine technology program and the program director of the nuclear medicine residency program since 2010, and CME program director of the Department of Nuclear Medicine since 2008. In addition, he has taught as a professor of nuclear medicine since 2013, having been an associate professor since 2004.

Inspired to pursue medicine by his curiosity to understand how the brain works, Dr. Miletich began his career as a student at the University of Iowa, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in general science and sociology in 1976. He was accepted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society in 1975. He then joined the University of Illinois Health Sciences Center, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1981 and a PhD in neuropharmacology in 1985. During medical school, he was selected for membership into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After serving a residency in neurology with the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1986, Dr. Miletich was awarded a fellowship with the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke with the National Institutes of Health in 1986. While at the National Institutes of Health where he was conducting research, he also completed a residency in nuclear medicine by 1993 while simultaneously serving as the chief of the Autoradiography and Experimental PET Section. In 1994, Dr. Miletich moved on to build the 50th PET center in the USA.

Specializing in neurodegenerative disorders, neurology and nuclear medicine, as well as functional neuroimaging and neuromolecular imaging, Dr. Miletich is active with numerous organizations, including the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, the American Academy of Neurology, the American Society of Neuroimaging and many others. Due to his work in neurodegenerative disease, he was also given the honor of being selected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is an editorial consultant with many journals and is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Neuroimaging. Dr. Miletich has also authored over 40 articles in peer reviewed journals and contributed to 9 books as a result of his research.

Dr. Miletich's continuing work in understanding brain physiology and trying to cure different brain diseases keeps him motivated. Propelling him forward in his research, he received the Insurance Medical Scientist Scholarship which supported his early efforts. He has subsequently received numerous grants from various foundations and the Federal government. At the same time, he has been a tireless educator, recognized with the Outstanding Accreditation Award for his Nuclear Medicine Residency in 2011, and Collimator Award for Teaching Excellence in 1998, 2000 and 2008. He has been featured in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
