Robert Kabel, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Kabel has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the scientific research industry

STATE COLLEGE, PA, June 27, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Robert Kabel, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Kabel celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 60 years of professional experience, Dr. Kabel has been recognized as a professor emeritus of Pennsylvania State University since 1991, having been a professor of chemical engineering with the school since 1963. Based on his industrial experience, Dr. Kabel collaborated on and co-edited a book on "Scaleup of Chemical Processes". Later he introduced a capstone course on Scaleup into the chemical engineering curriculum.

In addition to his primary roles of teaching and research, he published well over a dozen articles on education and instruction. Beyond Penn State, he worked as an engineer with Exxon Mobil Corporation from 1976 to 1978, a research scientist with the NASA Ames Research Center in 1969, and as an engineer with the Chevron Research Company in 1967 and 1968. Earlier in his career, Dr. Kabel served as an engineer with the Sun Oil Company in 1955 and Conoco in 1954.

Dr. Kabel was inspired to a career in science from an early age by a babysitter, Richard Schrader. In 8th grade, he was invited to teach a science class on student/teacher turn-around day. His high school Chemistry teacher, Mr. Glen Tilbury, was most influential and became a lifetime correspondent. He credits his college chemistry mentor, Dr. Carl S. Marvel, as the one who turned him toward a focus in chemical engineering. Continuing as a student at the University of Illinois, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1955. He later studied at the University of Washington, where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in 1961.

Throughout his career, Dr. Kabel has received numerous awards and honors for his achievements. He was decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal, also receiving a Corcoran Award from the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He is a recipient of an Outstanding Teaching Award from the Amoco Foundation, an Excellence in Instruction Award from Western Electric, a National Catalyst Award for Excellence in Chemical Teaching from the Chemical Manufacturers Association, and a Distinguished Achievement Award from Arizona State University. Dr. Kabel has been recognized as an Erskine fellow in New Zealand, and a fellow of the ASEE, NATO, and the Royal Norwegian Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. He was elected fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

After formal retirement, Dr. Kabel co-authored the text "Sources and Control of Air Pollution". Simultaneously, he became active in the Oregon-California Trails Association (OCTA), becoming a member of its Board of Directors. OCTA is devoted to preserving the visual and cultural remnants of the long distance, covered wagon, immigrant trails to Oregon, California, Utah, and other parts of the west. OCTA has active research and educational elements as well. One of those was the survey of emigrant diaries and other contemporary documents. The project had stagnated and was rejuvenated by Dr. Kabel ("Bob") and his wife "Barbara". Ultimately this led to the searchable database, www.paper-trail.org. Bob and Barbara were recognized for their accomplishment with the OCTA Distinguished Volunteer Award.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Robert Kabel, Ph.D., has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
