Dr. Kyomen earned a Doctor of Medicine from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California in 1986 and supplemented her knowledge with a Master of Science in epidemiology from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 1993. Currently the medical director for the geriatric psychiatry program at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, a position she has held since 2014, Dr. Kyomen has had a long and lucrative career in the field of psychiatric medicine. Alongside working as an associate psychiatrist at McLean Hospital for eight years, she has been a mentored clinical scientist development program fellow and a clinical and research fellow at Harvard Medical School and has contributed her knowledge and experience to many book chapters and peer-reviewed publications.
Passionate about psychiatric outreach, Dr. Kyomen initially pursued cross-cultural psychiatry out of a desire to learn about how different people are shaped by varied influences. Her professional excellence has resulted in her being named a John A. Hartford Scholar by Harvard Medical School, a title she held from 1990 to 1991. She has also been the recipient of the Harvard Medical School Division on Aging's Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center Research Development Core Pilot Project grant.
Continually growing in her career with empathy and knowledgeability, Dr. Kyomen attributes her successes to the many capable mentors she has had throughout her life. Due to her myriad of accomplishments, Dr. Kyomen has been involved with several organizations, including the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, the American Geriatrics Society and the American Psychiatric Association, for which she has been distinguished fellow and chair for the Committee on Long Term Care and Treatment for the Elderly.
