Prior to her present appointment, she held the position of editor-in-chief and director of marketing for Marshall & Swift from 1994 to 1998, editor-in-chief of the research department for Rauscher Pierce Refsnes, Inc., from 1990 to 1994, and senior editor for Gorsuch Scarisbrick Publishers from 1989 to 1990. Previously, she served as an accounting and infosystems developmental editor for Business Publications, Inc., from 1988 to 1989, as civil, chemical, petroleum, and natural gas engineering editor for McGraw-Hill Book Company from 1985 to 1987, a sales representative for McGraw-Hill Book Company from 1983 to 1985, a sales and marketing representative for Benjamin Cummings from 1981 to 1983, and a sales representative for Prentice Hall, Inc., from 1980 to 1981. Ms. Capell began her career as a marketing representative for E.C. Capell & Associates from 1977 to 1980.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Capell pursued an education at Furman University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1977. That same year, she contributed to The Paladin as a news editor. Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Capell previously served as the editor for the Talon magazine in 1972.
In addition to her primary trade, Ms. Capell remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She has maintained involvement with the National Organization of Women, the National Association of Female Executives, Women in Publishing, Women in Communications and the American Business Women's Association. Likewise, Ms. Capell is a member of Mensa International.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Capell has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. In 1985, she was honored as Rookie of the Year by the McGraw-Hill Book Company. Additionally, she was recognized as Manager of the Year by Pearson Custom Publishing, for which she was the first women to receive that designation.
