The recipient of a Bachelor of Arts from St. Mary's College and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from Indiana University Bloomington, Dr. Mary Schaeffer Conroy understands, perhaps better than most, the value of a solid education. Now retired from the University of Colorado Denver, she taught as a professor of Russian and Soviet history from 1985 to 2005 and was an associate and assistant professor for 10 years prior. She was also an assistant professor at Kansas State University and the University of Illinois in the mid-to-late 1960s.

As a scholar of political science and Russian and Soviet history, Dr. Mary Schaeffer Conroy has contributed many articles to scholarly journals. She is the author of the following books: P.A. Stolypin: Practical Politics in Late Tsarist Russia, In Health and In Sickness: Pharmacy, Pharmacists and the Pharmaceutical Industry in Late Imperial Russia, (awarded the George Urdang Medal), The Soviet Pharmaceutical Business During Its First Two Decades (1917-1937) and Medicines for the Soviet Masses During World War II. She edited and contributed a chapter to Emerging Democracy in Late Imperial Russia, edited The Birth of Democratic Culture in Late Imperial Russia (originally published in Russian by R. Torstendahl & N. Selunskaia), and is the author of the social history-biography: The Cosmetics Baron You've Never Heard of: E. Virgil Neal and Tokalon. American and French archival materials for her book on E. Virgil Neal were utilized in the 2017 French-German documentary about the Corsican Mafia, "Mafia et Republique." She has received grants from the International Research & Exchanges Board and the Ford Foundation.

Dr. Schaeffer Conroy served as president of the Colorado Slovak Society from 2002 to 2006. She is a member of the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy, the American Historical Association, and the Association for Slavic East European and Eurasian Studies and serves on the Board of Opera Colorado. She has taught Russian history through The Academy for Lifelong Learning for nearly eight years and has made invited presentations of Stolypin, Russian/Soviet pharmacy and pharmaceutical industries, and the Russian revolutions of 1917 at numerous international conferences.
