With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Beris has worked at the University of Delaware as a professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering since 1994 and as Arthur B. Metzner Professor of Chemical Engineering since 2002. Prior to these appointments, he served as an associate professor from 1990 to 1994, and as assistant professor from 1985 to 1990.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Beris pursued an education at the National Technical University of Athens, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1980. Following this accomplishment, he immigrated to the United States in 1980. He concluded his studies in 1985 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering. In 1992, Dr. Beris was naturalized as a U.S. Citizen.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Beris has participated in numerous endeavors in his professional circles. He has held the role of visiting professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Patras in 2006 and on the Board of Directors for the Center for Composite Materials at the University of Delaware from 1990 to 1992. He found success with his written works as well, contributing to the editorial board for the Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics since 2009 and the Journal of Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics from 1999 to 2001. Likewise, he coauthored "Thermodynamics of Flowing Systems with Internal Microstructure" in 1994 and held the position of associate editor in the journal section for Computers in Physics from 1998 to 1999. Dr. Beris has further contributed 135 articles to esteemed journals, 45 reviews to myriad publications, and hundreds of presentations at scientific meetings and conferences.

In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Beris remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He became active with Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society as an associate in 1981 and a full member in 1983. He has also maintained involvement with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Physical Society, the American Chemical Society, and the American Society for Engineering Education. Dr. Beris is a member of the Hellenic Society of Rheology and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Beris has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He was recognized as a Fellow of the Society of Rheology since 2016, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science since 1999, a Fulbright Fellow of the Université Catholique de Louvain from 1999 to 2000, and a Fellow of the Naval Research Laboratory for the U.S. Navy from 1992 to 1993. Likewise, he was presented with the Willem Prins Lecture Award in 2015, the Outstanding Doctoral Graduate Student Advising and Mentoring Award from the University of Delaware in 2010, the Dow Outstanding Young Faculty Award from the Middle Atlantic Section of the American Society for Engineering Education in 1991, and the Chrisovergis Award from the National Technical University of Athens in 1980. He additionally obtained the Second Prize in International Mathematical Competition of the XVII Mathematical Olympiad in 1975. Dr. Beris was selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
