Mr. Watson was born in Panama on November 2, 1947 and except for studies abroad has lived in this country all his life. Married to Analida de Roux Vallarino in 1972 and father of four, Mr. Watson has successfully balanced his role as head of a distinguished family with a successful career in the law. With more than 45 years of industry experience, Mr. Watson is currently of counsel for Arias, Fabrega & Fabrega, a role he assumed after retirement as senior partner of this leading international law firm in 2017.
Mr. Watson joined Arias, Fabrega & Fabrega in 1972 and became partner in 1984. As a leading corporate finance and tax professional Mr. Watson participated during more than three decades in significant international financial matters, became a leading securitization professional and go-to lawyer for infrastructure financing. With a strong corporate background he has assisted clients in joint ventures, important mergers and acquisitions and SEC registrations. During the last decade of private practice Mr. Watson spearheaded the development of Arias, Fabrega & Fabrega as a robust wealth management firm with an important regional clientele. In his current capacity as counsel for the firm Mr. Watson continues to provide cross-generational advice for Latin American families.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Watson pursued an education at Emory University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1969. He concluded his studies in 1972 at Tulane University School of Law, graduating with highest honors as a Doctor of Jurisprudence and inductee to the international honor society, The Order of the Coif. In addition he was a member of the Tulane Moot Court and was distinguished with West Publication's Book Award for the highest achievement in first year Property Law. Mr. Watson was admitted to practice by the Panama National Bar Association in 1973 and continues to be an active member.
During his career, in addition to being listed in Marquis Who's Who in the World in 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003 and 1997, Mr. Watson has been recognized by Who's Who Legal as a leading Securitization, M&A and Private Client lawyer, and was ranked leading Financial and Corporate lawyer in Panama by International Financial Law Review and Leading 500 Latin American lawyers. He was a speaker in several international estate and tax planning forums and has written entries for scholarly publications.
