Bruce Spivey Celebrates 50 Years of Professional Ophthalmological Experience

Dr. Spivey won the International Blindness Prevention Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology



    SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 31, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bruce Spivey has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Backed by 50 years of ophthalmologist clinician, leader and creator of organizations, Dr. Spivey started his professional career as an assistant and associate professor for the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine at The University of Iowa. Subsequently, he took on numerous leadership roles with the University of the Pacific and the California Pacific Medical Center. More recently, he joined the American Academy of Ophthalmology as executive vice president and chief executive officer. Over the years, he has also lent his expertise as CEO to California Healthcare Systems, Northwestern Healthcare Network, and Columbia-Cornell Care.

A diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Spivey holds a Bachelor of Arts from Coe College, and a Master of Science, and MD from The University of Iowa, and Master of Medical Education from the University of Illinois. A leading voice in the medical field, he has been President or Chair of the Pacific Vision Foundation, the International Council of Ophthalmology, and the American Ophthalmological Society as well as the American Board of Medical Specialties, Council of Medical Societies, Society of Medical Administrators, among others.

Throughout his career, Dr. Spivey has been recognized 47 times with awards and medals for his work, earning the Laureate Recognition Award, Secretariat Award, International Blindness Prevention Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition, he was the recipient of the Marshall M. Parks, M.D. Silver Medal through the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Additionally, he has been featured in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. In the coming years, Dr. Spivey intends to parlay his knowledge to others.
