After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in History from Ohio State University, Master of Arts in History from the University of Illinois and a Master of Science in Library Science from Case Western Reserve University, Mr. Hafner began his library career as a reference librarian at the University of Missouri Kansas City where he had the opportunity to interact with and support university students. While at Florida Atlantic University, he developed a Bibliographic Instruction Program with several departments in the College of Humanities and built up the library collection in American Literature and in English Literature as well as history.
In his career, Mr. Hafner served in various capacities at Lake Superior State University, University of West Florida, and Western Carolina University. At the same time, he belonged to the American Library Association, and the Society of Scholarly Publishing.
For community activities, Mr. Hafner belonged to the Sylvia-Jackson Optimist Club and was named the 1995 Sylvia-Jackson County Optimist of the Year.
