Retired physician assistant Mr. Wise worked for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee between 1974 and 2003, after spending just a year as a clinical care technician II at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. Since exiting the field, he began serving as an adjunct professor in the physician assistant program at South College in Tennessee in 2007 and as a chief adjunct faculty member in 2008.

Entering the medical field by chance after first serving in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, Mr. Wise was advised by a family friend and cardiologist in training at Duke University to train under him to become a patient care technician. Heeding his advice, Mr. Wise began his career working in the clinical cardiology lab, where an opportunity quickly arose to enter the physician's assistant program. Mr. Wise currently holds a BA in Biology from Washington and Jefferson College, a BHS from Duke University and an MPH from the University of Tennessee. Additionally, he is certified in occupational and environmental medicine and basic cardiac life support, and he was a certified physician associate.

As a physician assistant, Mr. Wise's role included giving physical exams to employees, running various health-related programs and working for a government-owned company operation. Throughout his career, Mr. Wise has committed himself to various organizations, including the Toxic Substance Control Act Task Team with Lockheed Martin Energy Systems and the ergonomics committee, hazardous waste committee and hearing conservation committee with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Mr. Wise has been serving as a member of the malpractice review board for the Tennessee Department of Public Health in Nashville since 1981 and as a judge advocate for Chapter 24 of the Knoxville Disabled American Veterans since 2017. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and a former president and vice president of the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants, which he also co-founded, among other roles. The author/co-author of several publications, as well as numerous scholarly journals and chapters to several books, Mr. Wise has also been honored several times for his work. Recently, he has served as the Awards Chair for the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants since 2008, where he was also named to the Hall of Fame. He received a Gold Certificate of Appreciation from the American Heart Association and was inducted into Pi Alpha Physician Assistant National Honor Society. In 2013, he became a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. A decorated veteran, Mr. Wise received a Decorated Bronze Star, Combat Medical Badge and Army Commendation Medal. He has been showcased in more than 25 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
