After amassing nearly 25 years of professional excellence in the food service industry, Mr. Wick retired in 1990, having most recently served as the president and chief executive officer of Bonnie Be-Lo Markets, Inc. in Norfolk, VA, for 11 years. Prior to this position, he served a number of other corporations in the field of food service, including Colonial Food Stores in Norfolk as a division vice president from 1977 to 1979 and A&P Food Stores in Indianapolis, IN, as a vice president and general manager from 1975 to 1977. He also held several roles with the National Tea Company between 1966 and 1974, including as a division manager in Chicago, IL, Milwaukee, WI, and Sioux City, IA. Mr. Wick commenced his career with the company as a sales manager and assistant division manager in St. Louis, MO.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Wick participated in numerous civic engagements. He was on the board of directors of the Virginia Beach Community Services Board from 1985 to 1989, on the advisory board of Straight, Inc., in Chesapeake, VA, from 1987 to 1991, and was a director of Community Alternatives, Inc., in Virginia Beach from 1991 to 1992. As such, in an effort to remain aware of recent developments within his industry, he maintained affiliation with several organizations, including the Retail Merchants Association of Tidewater Virginia, where he acted as president and was on the board of directors for 7 years. In addition, Mr. Wick was on the board of directors of the Food Marketing Institute from 1982 to 1989 and Virginia Food Dealers Association from 1981 to 1987.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Wick pursued an education at Saint Louis University, where in 1955 he earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. Soon thereafter, he received a certification in food distribution from Michigan State University in 1956. In light of his exceptional accomplishments to his industry and community, Mr. Wick was honored with the Citizen of the Year Award by the St. Louis Argus Newspaper in 1968.
Married to Virginia Rose Allen since 1953, Mr. Wick is the proud father of four children and four grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attributes his profound success to his wife, who has been a great inspiration to everyone in her life. Enjoying traveling in his spare time, Mr. Wick says that everyone should strive to do their best and hold a degree of empathy toward those with whom they work.
