    ATLANTA, GA, August 08, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Richard Mansfield Stormont with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. A renowned hotel executive, Mr. Stormont is the long time President of The Stormont Companies Inc. Established in 1984, following his 22 year career with Marriott International Hotels. the company created 14 hotels and 5 five conference centers, many of which were Marriott but also included Hilton, Hyatt and other independent hotels and conference centers.

His nephew Jim Stormont Jr. was his chief financial officer, whom he hired in 1989 and now owns The Stormont Hospitality Group. They have since opened four new hotels in the past five years, developing them by computer and technical experts as opposed to a large staff of employees. Each of them is highly successful and managed by the best talent in the hotel management business.

Mr. Stormont began in the hospitality industry at the age of 14, mopping floors and assisting the chef of a nearby hotel which was owned by one of his father's medical patients. Following in the footsteps of his brother-in-law several years later who was a graduate of the College of Engineering at Cornell University, Mr. Stormont pursued the degree at the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, which is now recognized as the preeminent hotel administration school in the world.

After spending the first year of his career as a cost analyst and sales representative for the Edgewater Beach Hotel Chicago, he served for three and one half years in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps. He joined Marriott Hotels and served between 1962 and 1983.

Mr. Stormont worked his way up from an assistant sales manager to the vice president of franchise operations and participated in the creation of the new product called "Courtyard by Marriott". He was mentored by Bill Marriott Jr. who traveled with him for one year learning together a great deal about the business. The picture of Mr. J. W. Marriott Sr. hangs to this day in his office. He was chairman of The Stormont Trice Corporation from 1993 to 2004 and Stormont Noble Development LLC from 2004 to 2006. In 1999 Governor Roy Barnes appointed Stormont to the Board of Industry, Trade and Tourism to serve as Director of Tourism for the State of Georgia.

The founder of the Georgia Hospitality and Travel Association and a Paul Harris fellow of Rotary International, Mr. Stormont also spent one year as president of the Rotary Club of Atlanta from 2007 to 2008, Vice President in 2006. and Secretary in 2005.

He chaired the St. Patrick's Day society and parade in Atlanta from 2005 through 2012. He was president and chairman of the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau in 1977 and served again in 1998. He is a long time member of the Capital City Club of Atlanta, Rotary International, The Cornell Hotel Society, Southern Innkeepers, and Cayuga Hospitality advisers. He served as regional vice president of the Cornell Hotel Society for several years.

Mr. Stormont was name Southeast Hotelier of the year by the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University in 2006. He was inducted into the Atlanta Hospitality Hall of Fame that same year. He was also named Most Valuable Volunteer by the American Hotel and Lodging Association. The recognition of this accomplishment was presented by President George H.W. Bush at the AH&LA annual convention in 1999 as part of the "thousand points of light" recognition. Mr. Stormont received the Obi T. Brewer award presented by the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau in 1979. Mr. Stormont has appeared in more than 55 additions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, and Who's Who in the World.

He was born in Evanston, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. In 1959 Mr. Stormont married Virginia Louellen Walters, a resident of Brookhaven, Georgia. He is the proud father of three grown children and four grandchildren.
