Ruth A. Hickox Litchfield Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Litchfield has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of education

One of her keys to success throughout the course of her career has been in her ability to find new methods and strategies for children to learn, which she still continues to do.

LEXINGTON, MA, August 09, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Ruth A. Hickox Litchfield with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Litchfield celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Litchfield began teaching at the Severence Millikin School in Cleveland Heights, OH, in 1969. Traveling the United States and beyond, she has also taught as an elementary school teacher in St. Croix, VI, Paris, France, and Hawaii as a private consultant and tutor for the U.S. Army in West Germany, and as a mission teacher for the North Dakota Lakȟóta people in New Orleans. In addition, she has spent time as a private consultant, an instructional aide, and a reading recovery teacher across the country. Ms. Litchfield also spent seven years as a research assistant at Harvard University School of Education from 1993 to 2000. A longtime practicing reading and literary specialist since 1997, she has since become a mission teacher for Communities without Borders in Africa since 2008, where she instructs other teachers, and a teacher with Bombito in the Dominican Republic since 2003.

As a child, Ms. Litchfield had difficulty learning how to read and was unhappy with how it made her feel. Entering the field of literacy as an adult, she wanted to give children the tools they needed to succeed. One of her keys to success throughout the course of her career has been in her ability to find new methods and strategies for children to learn, which she still continues to do.

In addition to teaching in the classroom and abroad, Ms. Litchfield has been a presenter of workshops in her field and has been the author and co-author of numerous articles in professional journals. She formerly served on the local board of directors and as local chapter president of the International Reading Association, and continues to remain active with several other organizations, including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Reading Association, the Massachusetts Reading Association, the Ohio Reading Association, the Reading Recovery Council of North America, and Phi Delta Kappa.

First earning an AA at Columbia College in Missouri in 1965, Ms. Litchfield subsequently completed a BS in Elementary Education and French at the University of Missouri, a Master of Education in Reading at the University of Hawaii, and later received a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study at Boston University. She is a certified consulting teacher of reading, French, and K-9 in Massachusetts, a certified K-12 reading teacher, and is trained and certified through Orton Gillinghan, Project Read, Wilson Reading Systems, Foundations Lindamood LIPs Reading Recovery, Teacher's College Reading and Writing, Geselle Development Observation, Visualizing and Verbalizing, Humanity Without Tears and EMPOWER (Architects for Learning).

Included in approximately 40 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who of American Women, Ms. Litchfield is also the mother of two children and enjoys cooking, baking, reading, swimming, sewing, and doing crafts.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ruth A. Hickox Litchfield has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
