Karen L. Stewart-Milne Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Milne has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of science and education

PHOENIX, AZ, August 15, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Karen L. Stewart-Milne with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Milne celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A retired teacher of 34 years, Ms. Milne taught science and mathematics to students in grades five through eight in Phoenix between 1969 and 2009. First hired at the Manzanita School, she later worked at Cactus Wren School, Cholla Middle School and Sweetwater School. Ms. Milne also held the position of middle school biology instructor for the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation in Princeton, N.J. from 1995 to 1998.

A longtime member of the Geological Society of America, Arizona Professional Educators, the National Education Association, the National Biology Teachers Association and the National Science Teachers Association, Ms. Milne has been the recipient of several awards during her tenure in education. More recently, she won the Team That Makes a Difference Award from the Arizona Middle Level Association in 2009. She was also named Science Teacher of the Year by the Arizona Science Teachers Association in 1994, was a grantee of the Arizona Game and Fish Department in 1994 and received a scholarship from the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship Foundation in 1994. Ms. Milne and her students also won several more grants, had the chance to visit Princeton University that same year, and was authorized by the Game and Fish Department to have a gila monster in their classroom.

Continuing to serve her local community in retirement, Ms. Milne has been volunteering with the Disabled American Veterans for the past year and formerly volunteered with the City of Phoenix Blight Buster Program for five years until 2016. She has also been active with the Sweetwater Parent Teacher Organization as vice president and secretary, the Sweetwater School as a student council advisor and yearbook advisor, with the Cholla School as an assistant to the wrestling coach and charged with training the scorers and timers, treasurer of their Parent Teacher Organization, and in several other roles both while teaching and in retirement.

Born in Phoenix, Ms. Milne aspired to operate heavy machinery as a career goal. But once she entered college, she had decided to take several courses in the sciences on the recommendation of her high school chemistry and physics teacher. Enjoying and excelling in the college level courses, she later wound up taking a course called Foundations of Education to fill three extra credits that she needed. By the third week of class, Ms. Milne realized that she had teaching in her blood just like her aunts.

In 1972, Ms. Milne earned a Bachelor of Arts in education at Arizona State University and, shortly thereafter began what would become a very successful and rewarding career in education. Married to James Evans Milne until his passing, she has two amazing children, Jamie Roberson, Principal in PVUSD and Ben Milne, Chief Warrant Officer, USCG. Ms. Milne has been cited in more than a dozen editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
