TROY, NY, August 20, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Betsy Helm, Official Senior Court Reporter and Certified Shorthand Reporter, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Helm began her court reporting career in 1981 with a free-lance agency, following which, she advanced to a hearing reporter position with the New York State Division of parole. In 1986, she was appointed Deputy Official Reporter of the New York State Assembly.

In 1996, she was appointed by the State Education Department to the State Board for Certified Shorthand Reporters which develops and administers State Certification examinations in her field, as well as passing on disciplinary matters across the court reporting field.

After serving in that capacity for the maximum term of 10 years, she was honored to be selected to serve on the Court Reporter Advisory Committee with the New York State Office of Court Administration, an appointment that continues to the present time. In this capacity, she collaborates with seven court reporters statewide, as well as Office of Court Administration officials, to create and assist in administering State Civil Service examinations for Official Court Reporters and Official Senior Court Reporters.

Ms. Helm is currently employed as a Senior Court Reporter in Rensselaer County Supreme Court, Third Judicial District of the New York State Unified Court System. Upon her eventual retirement from State service, she looks forward to fostering the court reporting profession, as well as mentoring fledgling court reporters.
