After accruing 35 years of practiced experience in social services, Ms. Davis retired from her role with the North Carolina State Division of Social Services in 1996. Earlier in her career, she served as a child welfare worker for the Stanly County Social Service Department. Over the years, she has held similar roles interacting with both children and adults through the North Carolina State Division of Social Services and the Catawba County Social Service Department. Although she originally wanted to be a religious youth director, and worked in that capacity for a brief period of time, Ms. Davis believes that God led her to social services. She returned home to her parents to more clearly define her path in life, which is when they suggested taking a trip with her sister and a friend. That friend pointed her in the direction of social services. Throughout her career, she worked "from the cradle to the grave," working with the adoptions of newborns as well as with the elderly.
Prior to starting in the field, Ms. Davis earned a Bachelor of Arts in religious education from Lenoir-Rhyne University, through which she earned the Opal L. Moretz Alumni Service Award. One decade later, she returned to school, earning a Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she maintained affiliation with the Academy of Certified Social Workers and the National Association of Social Workers. In her spare time, she gave back to her community through various Adult Life programs and on the board of directors of the Lutheran Family Services. For her excellence in the field, she has been honored with features in Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals and Who's Who of American Women. Looking ahead, Ms. Davis intends to continue giving back to her community.
