Dr. Bonnie Battey Celebrates More than 50 Years of Professional Excellence

Dr. Battey was recognized as a Nurse Scientist Scholar of the University of Kansas

    ANTIOCH, CA, August 21, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Bonnie Battey has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With more than 50 years of industry experience to her credit, Dr. Battey has worked as a consultant in her private practice since 2006. Prior to this appointment, she held the positions of adjunct professor for the School of Nursing at Samuel Merritt University from 2003 to 2006, adjunct associate professor at George Mason University from 1999 to 2003, professor for the School of Health Professions at Shenandoah University from 1994 to 1997, and supplemental nursing pool staff nurse in the Progressive Care Unit for the Vidant Medical Center in 1992. Previously, she served in the College of Nursing at East Carolina University as a professor of adult health nursing from 1984 to 1994 and assistant dean of graduate programs from 1984 to 1986. Dr. Battey began her career as an accreditation site visitor for the National League for Nursing from 1964 to 1990.

Dr. Battey has further excelled with the University of North Dakota as director of graduate studies in the School of Nursing, the University of Memphis as professor and chair of the Department of Nursing, the Oklahoma Board of Nursing as a site visitor, and the Diploma Nursing Program in Little Rock, AK, as an instructor and associate director. Additionally, she has held the post of chairperson for the Department of Nursing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock as well as the Ad-Hoc Committee for the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. Dr. Battey was registered as a nurse in Arkansas, Tennessee, New York, Virginia, North Dakota, North Carolina and California.

Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Battey pursued an education at Wagner College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1955. She continued her academic efforts with a Master of Science in nursing education in 1960 at Vanderbilt University. Following these accomplishments, she obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in speech communication and human relations from the University of Kansas in 1980. Dr. Battey concluded her studies at the Quantitative Methodology Institute at the National Center for Nursing Research for the National Institutes of Health, completing postgraduate coursework in 1992.

Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Dr. Battey has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. From 1999 to 2003, she held the roles of lay chaplain and mentor in City of Alexandria, VA. She further contributed to the Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church as a parish nurse and the Free Clinic for Local Unemployed Citizens with the Lutheran Church as a volunteer nurse and committee secretary. In addition to her primary role, Dr. Battey remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise, including the American Nurses Association, Inc., Sigma Theta Tau International and the American Holistic Nursing Association.

Dr. Battey found success with her written works as well, having penned "Humanism, Nursing, Communication and Holistic Care: A Position Paper" in 2009 and "Anger, Group Cohesiveness, and Productivity in Small Task Groups." In 1989, she co-authored "Situational Leadership in Nursing" with Paul Hershey Furthermore, Dr. Battey notably contributed myriad articles, chapters, computer assisted introduction programs and communication research tools to esteemed publications in her industry.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Battey has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. She was recognized by Worldwide Branding as an Industry Expert in 2016 and 2017 and as a Distinguished Worldwide Humanitarian in 2017 and 2018. She was presented with a Nurse Scientist Scholarship from the University of Kansas and the Book of the Year distinction from the American Journal of Nursing and Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. in 1989. Showcased in the Fourth Edition of Trademark Women of Distinction, Dr. Battey was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in American Nursing, the Marquis Calendar Series, and Marquis Magazine.
