With more than 40 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Blasi is currently retired, having most recently worked as a professor for Tennessee State University from 1999 to 2012. Prior to this appointment, he served Tennessee State University as associate professor from 1994 to 1999, Muskingum University as an associate professor of sociology from 1990 to 1994, The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo as an assistant professor of sociology from 1986 to 1990, Daemen College as an associate professor of sociology from 1978 to 1980, and the University of Louisville as an assistant professor of sociology from 1976 to 1978. Previously, he held the positions of visiting assistant professor of sociology at the University of Alabama from 1975 to 1976, assistant professor of sociology at DePauw University from 1974 to 1975, and instructor at Saint Anselm College from 1973 to 1974. Dr. Blasi began his career as a teacher at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, CA, from 1968 to 1969 and the Holy Cross School, New Orleans, LA, from 1969 to 1970.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Blasi pursued an education at St. Edward's University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1968. He continued his academic efforts at University of Notre Dame with a Master of Arts in 1971 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1974. Following these accomplishments, he obtained a Master of Arts at the University of St. Michael's College in 1985. Dr. Blasi concluded his studies at the University of Toronto in 1986, graduating with a Doctor of Theology.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Blasi has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He has notably contributed to Pax Christi USA. Furthermore, Dr. Blasi held the role of precinct chair for the Bexar County Democratic Party.

Dr. Blasi found success with his written works as well, having penned 25 books, including "A Methodological Guide for Social Scientific Inquiry and to Earliest Christianity" in 2018. With one translated book to his credit, he has authored more than 64 articles for scholarly journals. Having edited seven books, Dr. Blasi was the editor for the "Review of Religious Research."

In addition to his primary endeavors, Dr. Blasi was affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He maintained involvement as Tennessee State Conference president for the American Association of University Professors. He was also active as the president for the Association for the Sociology of Religion in 2001. Likewise, Dr. Blasi has been a member of the American Sociological Association, the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion and the Religious Research Association.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Blasi has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. He was presented with the William Rainey Harper Outstanding Scholar Award from Muskingum University in 1992, as well as the Distinguished Scholarly Book Award from the Section on the History of Sociology of the American Sociological Association in 2006. Dr. Blasi was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
