In this position, Mr. Davis specializes in surveying both recreational and commercial marine hull and machinery as well as marinas, piers and wharves. Mr. Davis also held the position of senior management consultant and director of the Marine Practice Group ESi from 2012 to 2018. He specializes in engineering and marine survey of recreational, commercial hull and cargo, marine accident reconstruction and fire origin and cause. He has also served as the founder and chief executive officer of Davis & Company Ltd. since 1977. The organization is currently the largest marine survey company in North America, having offices in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Furthermore, Mr. Davis was a marine surveyor for Graham Miller Ltd. in London, England, from 1974 to 1976. He also worked as an adjuster for the General Adjustment Bureau of Chicago from 1973 to 1974. Prior to beginning his career, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and science from the Santa Fe University of Art and Design in 1973. Related to his main pursuits, Mr. Davis has been a guest lecturer for Tec Core in Wheeling, IL, since 1990, as well as a member of the ad hoc committee on marine fuel hose for U.L. Marine since 1986. He also lends his time and expertise as a presenter for Property Loss Research Bureau national conferences, as well as International BoatBuilders' Exhibition conferences. Furthermore, Mr. Davis served on the parents advisory board for the University of San Diego from 2000 to 2001.
Mr. Davis has shared his knowledge with others, contributing articles to professional journals. He has also presented technical papers on research in his field at symposiums. Additionally, Mr. Davis has conducted research for the National Fire Protection Agency and the United States Coast Guard Office of Boating Safety. Bettering any group with which he is affiliated, Mr. Davis holds numerous memberships. He is a member of the National Association of Marine Surveyors, serving as the organization's chairman of the insurance committee from 1982 to 1995 and chairman of the yachts and small crafts technical committee from 2000 to 2008. Furthermore, Mr. Davis served as the chair of the organization's education committee from 2006 to 2008 and as national vice president in 2008. Mr. Davis also holds membership with the American Boat and Yacht Council, serving on the technical board since 2007 and as a board member from 1999 to 2005, having been the first marine surveyor to do so. He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, participating with the 921 committee on the marine chapter taskforce. Mr. Davis has held permanent membership status with the 303 committee the National Fire Protection Association since 1997.
A member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers since 1997, Mr. Davis has been the chairman of the small boats forensic panel since 2017. He was a member of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, serving on the boating industry risk management committee from 1998 to 2012. Additionally, Mr. Davis is affiliated with the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, the National Association of Fire Investigators, and the International Association of Arson Investigators.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Mr. Davis has been featured in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World. He was also featured in "Boating Industry" in December 2004.
