Joseph Snyder is an accomplished editor and journalist whose work has appeared in several popular magazines.

An accomplished editor and journalist whose work has appeared in several popular magazines, Mr. Snyder comes from a family of people who utilized their talents to make a significant impact on the world around them. In particular, his sister, a former president of the Guild of Irish Writers in Ireland, and his father, a career civil servant, shaped his decision to become a writer. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from George Washington University in 1968, followed by an Master of Arts in anthropology from the University of New Mexico five years later. Shortly after receiving his graduate degree, he worked with the U.S. Civil Service Commission and then became an editor for the U.S. National Park Service in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.

Early in his career Mr. Snyder took up freelance writing, which he has pursued since 1978. He was also a consultant editor for Early Man magazine and a special project editor for Sea Power Magazine in the late 1980s. Since 1987, he has served as a consultant editor for Sea Power Magazine and the Journal of Archaeoastronomy. From 1993 to 2014 he was chairman of the board of directors of Atlantic & Pacific High Speed Railway, Inc., and from 1993 to 2008 he served as president of Duffields-Station Inc. Relying on his experience and the historical knowledge he gained throughout the years, Mr. Snyder was a lecturer on Mayan archaeology for Norwegian-Caribbean Lines and has been a consultant in the field for more than 20 years.

In addition to the myriad articles he has written for professional journals, Mr. Snyder is also the author of "A.D. 2025: Transportation in America," "Musings from a New Manse," "The Phaistos Disc, A Commentary," "Fragments of My Fleece," "1859: Turning Point of the Modern Era," "Miniatures of American History," which was published in 2005 and "Baltimore & Ohio: The Passenger Trains and Services of America's First Common-Carrier Railroad 1827-1971," published in 2012. His two latest, "Maigret in West Virginia" and "Maigret Times Three," were published in 2015 and 2017, respectively. On July 4, 2018, he will celebrate 45 wonderful years of marriage alongside his wife, Sally Walker Snyder. Mr. Snyder is the proud father of two children, Brian Joseph and Laura Elizabeth.
