Prof. Norman Stahl Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Prof. Norman Stahl was the recipient of the Robert L. Griffin Award in 2014 and the Distinguished Research Award in 1990, both from the College Reading and Learning Association.

Dr. Stahl obtained professional tenure at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois between the years of 1987 and 2012. He began working there as an associate professor in the department of curriculum and instruction from 1987 to 1993, and became a full professor and chair of the department in 1994. In 1999, Dr. Stahl became the chair of the department of literacy education, and stayed with this position until his retirement in 2012.

Prior to this tenure, Dr. Stahl was an assistant professor in the division of development studies at Georgia State University in Atlanta from 1982 to 1987 and a research associate at the University of Pittsburgh from 1980 to 1982. He also received a Council of Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations National Fellowship in 2006. Since 2012, Dr. Stahl has been active as a consultant in his field.

Dr. Stahl earned an Associate of Arts from City College of San Francisco in 1969. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from San Francisco State University in 1971, where he later received a Master of Arts in 1976. He later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1983. Dr. Stahl has also earned California Standard Teaching Credentials in both elementary and secondary education.

From 1999 to 2001, Dr. Stahl was the president of the DeKalb Education Foundation. He has further authored two books, including two editions of "Teaching Developmental Reading," as well as "Teaching Study Strategies in Developmental Education." Dr. Stahl has also served as president of several organizations such as the History Reading Special Interest Group of the International Reading Association, the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers, the College Reading and Learning Association, and the Literacy Research Association.

Dr. Stahl was inducted into the Reading Hall of Fame in 2017. He was also the recipient of the Robert L. Griffin Award in 2014 and the Distinguished Research Award in 1990, both from the College Reading and Learning Association, as well as many awards from several other associations. In addition, Dr. Stahl is listed in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who in the World.
