His passion for the field began in high school when he discovered a love for performing sketches for his peer group, and he went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Arizona in 1958. In 1966, he founded John Stark Productions in Ojai, CA, serving this company for several years to come as producer, director, writer and actor and consistently bringing to the table creative versatility and skill.
Throughout his career's progression, Mr. Stark produced and directed more than forty plays in such notable locations as London, Los Angeles, New York City and Canada. Through these plays, which include "Agony," "Family Glembay," "The Iceman Cometh," "Electra," "Just Wild About Harry" and "Name Day," he has provided the national and international theatrical community with persistence, quality and a strong sense of creative integrity. In 1982, he produced "An Evening with Stephen Leacock," a play, album and television special that was recognized with a Juno Award and a Critics' Choice recognition at the Edinburgh Festival. Mr. Stark pursued an international tour with this production and received widespread acclaim for his wit and multifaceted skill set.
Among his other recognitions and honors, Mr. Stark received an Independent Film and Video Award for "Chekov & Maria," which he produced in 2007. Due to his passion for his field and his interest in industry growth, he belongs to the Screen Actors Guild, the Actors Equity Association and the British Actors Equity Association. Mr. Stark is in the process of producing three films, one of which explores a revolt caused by mistreatment of pacifist Russian immigrants who settled in British Columbia.
