With nearly 40 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Brown is currently retired, having most recently worked as a professor of history, philosophy and religion at Harford Community College [MD] from 1970 to 1996. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of teaching assistant in history at Ball State University [IN] from 1967 to 1970 and a visiting assistant professor of history at Centre College [KY] in 1967. Previously, he served Grace Presbyterian Church in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, as a Minister of Christian Education from 1964 to 1966 and Alma College [MI] as an assistant professor of religion from 1960 to 1964. Ordained as a minister by the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1961, he has been affiliated with the Presbytery of Baltimore since 1970. Dr. Brown began his career at the Johns Hopkins University [MD] as a university chaplain's assistant from 1958 to 1960.

Before embarking on his professional path Dr. Brown pursued an education at DePauw University [IN], earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954. He continued his academic efforts with a Bachelor of Divinity at the San Francisco Theological Seminary [CA] in 1957. Following these accomplishments, he obtained a Master of Arts from Johns Hopkins University in 1959. Dr. Brown concluded his studies at Ball State University [IN] in 1970, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy degree.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field Dr. Brown has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. A participant in the civil rights March on Montgomery [AL] in 1965, he also performed in an first-person presentation on racism with other participants, entitled For All the World To Hear, sponsored by the University of Maryland Baltimore County (2012). On the board of directors for the Museum of Colquitt County History [GA], he held the role of president for the Historical Society of Harford County in 1992 and for the Colquitt County Historical Society from 1997 to 2001. Furthermore, Dr. Brown was the commissioner for the Historic Preservation Commission for Harford County, MD, from 1994 to 1996 to coincide with our nation's bicentennial and the Commission on Aging for Frederick County, MD, from 2014 to 2016.

Dr. Brown found recognition with his written works as well, having authored What This Country Really Needs Is: A Story of An American Vice-President and the Cause of the 25th-Amendment, Thomas R. Marshall in 2018. From 1982 to 1985, he was the editor for the Harford Historical Bulletin. Likewise, Dr. Brown has penned many articles for esteemed publications in his industry.

In addition to his primary vocation Dr. Brown remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He had maintained involvement with the Historical Society of Harford County as president from 1986 to 1988, as well as being selected a George W. Archer lecturer in 1994. He was active with the Bel Air American History Club, Maryland, as vice president from 1985 to 1990. A member of the Kiwanis Club in Moultrie, for his contribution to the fraternity Kiwanis International recognized him as a George F. Hixson fellow. Dr. Brown was also a member of the Organization of American Historians, the Maryland Historical Society, the Indiana Historical Society, and the Saint Andrews Society of Baltimore.

In light of his many undertakings, Dr. Brown has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. He was recognized as a Research Grantee on Havre De Grace Maryland by the National Endowment of The Humanities and Maryland Humanities Council in 1985. During his career he was on the archaeological expedition to Tell Ashdod, Israel, in 1963 and in time discovered a Kassite cylinder seal from the 15th century, B.C.E.

Dr. Brown was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
