Serving as the president and founder of Ross & Associates in Chicago, IL, since 2017, he previously acted as the senior vice president of Encyclopaedia Britannica in Chicago from 2002 to 2017, executive vice president of publishing of World Book, Inc., in Chicago from 1992 to 2002, and editorial director of NTC Publishing Group in Lincolnwood, IL, from 1983 to 1992. Mr. Ross began his career in 1979, serving as an editor for Time-Life Books in Tokyo, Japan, for four years.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Ross has been on the board of advisors of several organizations, including Teacher Created Materials, A Pass Education, A+ Media, and Semmx, Inc. Likewise, he was on the board of directors of Financial Mentors of America. In an effort to remain current on recent developments within the industry, Mr. Ross has maintained affiliation with numerous councils and societies, including the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and the Association of Educational Publishers, where he was previously elected president from 2002 to 2003.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Ross has authored, edited and developed a number of books within his area of expertise. Most recently, he published "Dealing with Disruption: Lessons from the Publishing Industry" in 2016, "Publishing Without Boundaries: How to Think, Work and Win in the Global Marketplace" in 2007, and "Publishing Without Borders: Strategies for Successful International Publishing" in 2003. In addition, Mr. Ross was also involved with the publication of such works as "SmartMath" in 2010, "Discover English with Ben and Bella" in 2009, "Biographical Encyclopedia of Scientists" in 2002, and "Animals of the World" in 2000, among others.
Mr. Ross considers the highlights of his career to have been the myriad books he has written, edited, or published. He notes that some of the products he developed more than 30 years ago are still active in publication and used by students nationwide. He is humbled by the idea that his books have helped establish the careers of other prominent editors and writers, and this experience has always been immensely rewarding. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to publishing, Mr. Ross was named to the Educational Publishing Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Print Media Production Executives Hall of Fame in 2002.
Highly educated, Mr. Ross holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Arts from Brandeis University. Additionally, he completed courses in advanced management at Stanford University. Married to Kathleen Schultz since 1992, he is the proud father of three children, Monica, Rachael and Daniel. Mr. Ross enjoys photography, reading and playing bridge in his spare time.
