Richard Severance Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Richard Severance has been inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Square Dance Foundation of New England and was awarded the Yankee Clipper Award.

Mr. Severance is a dedicated finance executive with experience working in multiple companies and organizations. He began studying finance and bookkeeping in high school and went on to study higher accountancy at La Salle Extension University. In addition, he later obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the Blackstone School of Law. He began his career as an associate of BFGoodrich then in the claims department of the New Hampshire Insurance Company followed by 48 years with the Keller Group of Companies, all in Manchester, NH, where he recently retired as their corporate treasurer-secretary. Throughout his career, Mr. Severance has held positions such as accountant, charter secretary, and president of several organizations.

Outside of his work in finance, Mr. Severance has also been active in his community as a square-dancing leader. He has served as the advisor, president, chairman, and director of several square-dancing organizations, including the Twirling T.N.T.s, the Queen City Promenaders Square Dance Club, and most notably, the Square Dance Foundation of New England, where he served as Archive Director of their library/museum for thirty years. He has also written numerous articles for his local newspapers and square dance publications. Through his civic work with various square dance organizations, he led volunteers in building the largest square dance collection of historical publications, documentation and collectibles which has recently been donated to the Library of the University of New Hampshire and the Museum of Dance in NY. Dedicated to his civic work, he wrote on the history of square dance titled "A Step in Time - The American Square Dance," of which a copy has been donated to the two above institutions along with the Smithsonian Library. Mr. Severance is recognized as a forerunner in the preservation, promotion and perpetuation of square dancing.

For his civic efforts, Mr. Severance has been inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Square Dance Foundation of New England and was awarded the Yankee Clipper Award. In order to remain aware of developments in finance and square dancing, Mr. Severance maintained affiliation with the National Association of Accountants, the Legacy Club, the Lloyd Shaw Foundation, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the International Platform Association.
